In our experience an 'off the shelf' poduct rarely fully satisfies the requirements of our clients.  The product generally contains features that the client doesn't need but lacks some of the core features that they do require.  Our solution is to start with one of our core products where possible and carefully customise it to ensure it does everything that the client needs.  By working with a core product that has been rigorously test we save our clients time and money whilst ensuring it matches their requirements perfectly.
